Louisiana is a state with several bustling urban and metro areas. Many healthcare centers are located throughout the state, offering medical assistants good employment opportunities. Employment is generally more readily available in areas with high tourist populations, like New Orleans, where medical centers must be able to meet the demands of seasonal and year-round residents. The best cities for medical assisting jobs in Louisiana are:

Graduates may elect to enter a Bachelor in Healthcare Management program to further their education, as well.

2. Career Technical College

CTC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting, which takes about 20 months to complete. The program varies by location; however, all medical assisting students take required core medical assisting courses to prepare them for the profession. The program is accredited and students may sit for the certified medical assistant exam (CMA) through the AAMA upon graduation.

3. Blue Cliff College

Locations: Houma, Shreveport, Metairie, Alexandria

Blue Cliff College offers a Certificate in Medical Assisting. The college recommends students visit the website or meet with an admissions representative for more information about their medical assisting program. Blue Cliff College’s program may not be accredited, so be sure to check with the college about the possibility of taking a medical assistant certification or registration exam after program completion.

Remington College offers an eight-month Diploma of Medical Assisting. This course combines focused instruction on the clinical and administrative skills needed to work as an entry-level medical assistant. The program requires completion of a medical externship before graduation, and you may be able to sit for certification exams upon graduation. MedVance Institute offers a Diploma of Medical Assisting that can usually be completed in less than one year. The program consists of tightly focused instruction to prepare students for entry level employment as a medical assistant.
